Electric Ladyland

One of a handful of certifiable rock & roll masterpieces, Electric Ladyland captures completely the electrifying, exuberant genius of Jimi Hendrix. Spread over sixteen cuts, ranging from "1983" to "Crosstown Traffic" to "All Along The Watchtower", Hendrix fully unveils both his endless musical fluency and his astonishing mastery of the electric guitar. Two decades after its release, Electric Ladyland is still years ahead of its time.

The Seattle-born Johnny Allen Hendrix served his musical apprenticeship as a backing musician for such luminaries as B.B. King, Little Richard and the Isley Brothers. It was in a New York club that he was first spotted by former Animal Chas Chandler, who sold his bass guitars to buy equipment for the young artist.

With Chandler as his manager, Hendrix relocated to London and formed The Jimi Hendrix Experience with bassist Noel Redding and drummer Mitch Mitchell. The trio's first single, "Hey Joe", stormed the British charts in early 1967 and was followed shortly afterwards by Hendrix's groundbreaking debut, Are You Experienced? That summer he made his triumphant stateside debut at the Monterey Pop Festival where he upstaged the guitar-smashing Who by setting fire to his Fender.
